Using Your Sloper to Fit a Commercial Pattern with Deanne Smith

June 2, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

$45.00 – $70.00

Have you become discouraged sewing garments and not getting the results you dreamed of? Deanne will teach you how to get the results that you want in this fun class.  You will learn to evaluate your commercial patterns and develop the techniques needed to adjust them for your perfect fit. During the class, you will adapt one commercial pattern while learning about fit, wearability, mobility as well as fit lines and style lines of a pattern.

Don’t have a sloper?  Not sure if you should attend this class?  Worried that the sloper concept is beyond you right now?  No it isn’t!  You likely have everything you need for the class in your sewing room.  Here is what is needed to make this class perfect for you.

If you do not have a block pattern or a sloper already, you can still successfully attend this class as long as you have a well-fitting garment pattern that has a jewel neckline and a bust dart.  Please trace this well-fitting pattern on unwrinkled paper, drawing in the seam lines for the shoulders, neckline, armscye, side seams and sleeves. (Do not include the seam allowances) Mark the center front, center back and all the normal pattern specific details.

If you already have a fitted block pattern or sloper with a jewel neckline and a bust dart, that is perfect. Copy that to paper without seam allowances. Mark the center front, center back and all the normal specific details. Please bring that unwrinkled copy to class. If you already have a fitted muslin, please bring that as well.

Included in kit fee:

Large tracing paper 26” x 39” and a 24” by 20-yard roll of sketch paper. Almost all of your pattern pieces will fit on this sheet for tracing.  You can see through it to locate any print or lines on the fabric.

What to bring:

In addition to your sloper, you will need to bring:

  • A commercial pattern that you want to adjust to fit you.
  • Dressmaking curve ruler
  • Smooth tracing wheel
  • Compass
  • Sharp #2 pencils, regular and colored

Applicable Sewing Level:  Advanced Beginner
