The Atlanta Chapter has over 400 members. There are a number of Neighborhood Groups that meet in various areas of Metropolitan Atlanta. The Chapter’s bimonthly newsletter, “Sew It Goes,” is sent to all of our members and contains information about upcoming events, retailer information, book and video reviews, sewing techniques, the Neighborhood Group program schedule, and much more. “Sew It Goes” is also available on our web site: www.asgatlanta.org. The Chapter Advisory Board meets bimonthly and all members are encouraged to participate in this and all other ASG activities.
The Atlanta Chapter strives to achieve the ASG mission and to promote sewing activities in our community. Along with our other activities, the chapter conducts fashion shows, workshops, charity sewing events, presentations by nationally known speakers, and “sit-n-sew” activities for members and non-members alike. We are working to increase the promotion of sewing activities in the Atlanta area as well as build closer working relationships with local retailers and other sewing-related groups and guilds. There are several area retailers among our Chapter sponsors.
We want you to join us! For membership information please contact the Atlanta Chapter of the American Sewing Guild by sending an email to membership@asgatlanta.org
ABOUT THE AMERICAN SEWING GUILD
“Advancing Sewing as an Art Form and Life Skill ”
The American Sewing Guild, Inc. (ASG) is a national, non-profit volunteer organization whose mission is to serve the sewing enthusiast by providing the broadest possible range of information, education, assistance and support. Founded in 1978, ASG has more than 150 chapters throughout the country with headquarters located in Houston, Texas. Information about the guild is available from the National web site at www.asg.org or by sending an email to info@asg.org.
Chapters operate under the guidance of a volunteer advisory board of members and promote sewing activities in their local communities. The Chapter advisory board coordinates and plans activities like fashion shows, sewing shows, hands-on workshops, lecture-demo programs, retailer programs and more.
Chapters usually consist of many different Neighborhood Groups that meet monthly (see the neighborhood groups page of this website). The Neighborhood Groups are the heart of the Chapter, since that is where members come together to share their sewing creativity, experiences, techniques, and participate in programs where they learn from each other and guest speakers. ASG members can attend any Neighborhood Group meeting and are encouraged to visit different groups. Members are also encouraged to participate in advisory board meetings as well.
