Event Description
Kenneth D. King is a contributing editor at Threads magazine, a couture fashion designer, author, and popular adjunct instructor at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. He specializes in custom eveningwear, and his designs appear in the permanent collections at several museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
When Kenneth D King teaches,he strives for what he calls “repeatable and reliable”. This assortment of techniques is part of that collection, and will delight and educate the students. We will be making samples in this class, instead of a project—so when you’re finished, you don’t have an unfinished project sitting in silent reproach in your workroom.
The techniques include:
- Sewing with the bobbin thread
- The foolproof invisible zipper
- Balanced dart
- Single welt pocket
- Sewing inside corners to outside corners
- Sewing intersecting seams
- Sewing piping
- Self-faced V-neck with gusset
Kit (included in fee):
- a ½ yard wool flannel
- ½ yard lining (slipper satin or similar fabric, NO BEMBERG)
- an invisible zipper
- ¼ yard silk organza
- 1 yard 3mm thick rattail cord for piping fill
What to bring:
- Sewing machine in good working order
- thread
- usual sewing supplies
- good scissors and rotary cutter
- invisible zipper foot (optional)
- generic adjustable zipper foot (especially important).
- Instructor will have some of these for sale for the Bernina newer machines.
As this is an all-day class, we will provide a simple lunch and some snacks. For special dietary needs, feel free to bring your lunch.
