SUMMARY:President's Challenge - Comforts of Home
DESCRIPTION:As we continue to spend a lot of time at home\, why not sew something fabulous to enjoy at home?\nThis year’s challenge is to sew “lounge” wear (or something to lounge with)\, like a caftan\, lounging pajamas\, embroidered slippers\, or a cushy robe.  Loungewear can be luxurious – Like a floral silk caftan or silk pajamas.  How about pajamas made with an oh so soft cotton or bamboo knit?  I’m crediting Barbara Moss for this idea\, she posted pictures of amazing knit pajamas she sewed for her granddaughter in our Facebook Group.\nThe ASG NATIONAL 2020 “ANYONE CAN WIN CONTEST” is still open until September. (See article in our upcoming newsletter for more details.)  You need to make something from a select group of Simplicity patterns for this contest. .  Among this year’s patterns is a Caftan and a drapey kimono jacket.  You can enter two contests with one item.\nFor those who don’t sew garments\, a lap quilt or pillow qualify for the President’s Challenge.  Everyone can join in.\nTo enter your entry for the President’s Challenge\, e-mail one to three pictures of your entry along with a brief description of your entry and your inspiration for making the item to Sue Eisen\, President at asg.president@asgatlanta.org  by October 10\, 2020.\nThere will be prizes – the overall winner will get a $200 gift card.\nHere are a couple of possibilities that will work for both the Any One Can Win and the President’s Challenge.   Both are Simplicity patterns

SUMMARY:Spring Fling with Linda Lee
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, March 30\, 2019 \nSpring Fling will be here before you know it and this year our Special Guest is Linda Lee\, owner of The Sewing Workshop\, here to talk about her patterns and translate them into Spring and Summer wardrobe ideas for us! \nLinda’s training and experience as an interior designer has come in handy as she travels the country teaching the art of combining beautiful fabrics for the fashion–conscious home sewer. Along with teaching fitting skills and fine sewing techniques\, she is known for designing patterns under the name of The Sewing Workshop\, a line of patterns for the modern sewer who is interested in architecturally interesting styles to flatter with flare. \nAge is nothing but a number when it comes to looking fabulous and no one does it better than The Sewing Workshop Pattern Collection. From beautiful fabrics to stunning colors\, this showcase of handmade garments will challenge you to rethink how you dress and what you want to sew. The Sewing Workshop is known for its carefree chic combinations of daring fabrics\, textures and patterns in layers of drape and shape. Linda will interpret how to read the trends of the moment and fit those concepts into making real clothes for you. You will leave knowing a lot more about fabrics\, where to buy the good ones\, how to work with them in unique ways and how to blend them into your wardrobe\, eventually building a core wardrobe of quiet confidence with the add-ons that have plenty of personality. \nIn addition to Linda Lee’s dynamic program\, look forward to lunch with your sewing friends! \nStart now to think about what YOU will model in the Fashion Show! \nTicket sales will open February 1\, 2019. \nWhen: Saturday\, March 30\, 2019 \nTime: Registration begins – 9:15AM\, Program – 10:00AM\, Cleanup: 2:00PM \nWhere: Dorothy C. SUMMARY:Embroidery ITH (In The Hoop)
DESCRIPTION:ITH has become a common acronym for In The Hoop embroidery designs\, but what does that really mean? Most of the time it refers to designs used for projects that are completely done by embroidering in the hoop – no additional sewing necessary. While for most designs that is true\, occasionally a bit of hand sewing to close an opening used to turn the item created right side out is required. Multiple pieces done in separate hoopings may also be needed\, with the final hooping sewing all the parts together. \nThis class will use an ITH Crossbody Bag design by Edie Gribler\, an ASG member who recently moved to Virginia Beach to be near family. She started digitizing designs after going to an Anita Goodesign event where she purchased Steve Wilson’s digitizing university. With her background in graphic arts\, it was a natural next step. Today she has her own website and a large following of customers. Website: https://inthehoopembroiderydesigns.com \nMelanie Leigh and Katie Harper\, two outstanding and talented embroidery experts (who are also members of our ASG chapter) will be teaching this class. Students will learn how to use their embroidery machine to create the Crossbody Bag\, which will be created in one hooping and finished in the hoop. The bag has hardware attached for the strap and a monogram to accent the front. A great gift for friends and family for Christmas. \nBefore class\, each student will need to purchase the design ($14.95)\, MONOGRAM CROSSBODY BAG\, from Edie’s website. The link to the required class design is: https://inthehoopembroiderydesigns.com/products/monogram-crossbody-bag-in-the-hoop \nPlease download this design prior to class and bring it with you. \nSupplies To Bring: \n\nFabric for bag\nEmbroidery thread to coordinate with the fabric\nEmbroidery machine with a hoop that fits design size purchased\nScissors\nPainters tape\nDesign\n\nNote: The class kit will include bag hardware\, batting\, and stabilizer. \nTime: The class starts at 10:00 and goes until 4:00\,  lunch included. \nLocation: The class location is in Marietta at the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) \n1655 Enterprise Way \nMarietta GA 30067 \nCost:  The cost of the class is $45.00 which includes the kit and lunch.  You are also required to purchase the bag design separately ($14.95) and bring the design to class with you. Class is limited to 12 participants. \nIf you need additional information\, please contact Melanie Leigh sewmanymemories1@gmail.com
