Using Your Sloper to Fit a Commercial Pattern  with Deanne Smith

Do you have a personal fit sloper or block but need to know how to use it to adjust a commercial pattern for a good fit? Then this class is for you! Deanne Smith will explain the process and lead you through the steps to adapt one pattern using your sloper. You will learn fit, wearability and mobility. You will also learn what are fit lines and what is style in the lines of a pattern. You will need to bring your fit sloper to this class. It should be a recent sloper or block that you know will fit you. The accuracy of your sloper will affect the accuracy of the fit of your final pattern.
Fitting occurs within the seam lines. Transfer your block or sloper to a paper pattern. The seam lines must be indicated on your block pattern and the commercial pattern. If you are using your block or sloper as a template transfer it to tag board or poster board without seam allowances. It will be helpful to bring or wear a muslin made from your block to the class.

 It will be helpful for you to at least try on the muslin at the class.
It is recommended that you trace the commercial pattern rather than cutting it. If you need to make adjustments you will have a pristine example to work from. Press both patterns and bring them so that there are not deep folds or wrinkles. The class will include information on ease, fit, wearability and mobility.

Included in kit fee:

Large tracing paper 26” x 39” and a 24” by 20-yard roll of sketch paper. Almost all of your pattern pieces will fit on this sheet for tracing.  You can see through it to locate any print or lines on the fabric.

What to bring:

In addition to your sloper, you will need to bring:

  • A commercial pattern that you want to adjust to fit you.
  • Dressmaking curve ruler
  • Smooth tracing wheel
  • Compass
  • Sharp #2 pencils, regular and colored

Applicable Sewing Level:  Advanced Beginner

COST = $45 ($70 Non-members), Includes $20 Kit fee.  Registration fee is NON- REFUNDABLE unless there is a waiting list.  Lunch will be provided, bring something to snack on.

Registration begins on-line April 16, 2018 www.asgatlanta.org  and ends on May 20, 2018.  Registration is limited to 20 participants.
